DIY Holographic Highlighter (Makeup Hack)

As much as I love makeup and highlighters (check out my post all about my favorite highlighters here) I just can’t get myself to buy the new holographic highlighters that have taken over the beauty world. I’ve swatched them in stores, walked by them a few times thinking about if I really should buy them or not, but I just don’t see myself using them all the time. They would be great for creating some cool makeup looks but not for everyday. The more I looked around Sephora, I found their liquid highlighters. One of them was a holographic pink/purplish color. Then a light bulb went off! Just like with any cream product, once you place a powder on top of them it intensifies the color. With this one liquid highlighter I thought how I could make my own holographic highlighters with this and eye shadows I already had at home!! I felt better buying a $14 product that I could transform into this trendy makeup trend than a $40 palette!

Sephora’s Radiant Luminizing Drops in the color Starlight is what I used as the cream base.

As you can see, it already has that beautiful holographic color to it. Even on it’s own it’s so beautiful and right on trend! I let them dry completely before I put any eye shadows on top of them. Then I looked through all my eye shadows (which is a lot) and picked out a few shades to make my own custom holographic highlighter.

With flash. I was having so much fun finding other colors to make so I added another swatch. I think they came out so beautiful! I’ll go from left to right on the colors I used for each swatch. 1st color I used was M.A.C. highlighter in the color Soft & Gentle. 2nd color is L’oreal Infallible eye shadow in the color 756 Always Pearly Pink. 3rd M.A.C. eye shadow in the color Bold As Gold (limited edition). 4th color is M.A.C. eye shadow in the color You’re Fresh (limited edition). And the 5th color was from Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow palette, I used the highlighter shade. They came out so good and beautiful! I can’t wait to do a makeup look using some of these shades.

Above is a picture of a popular palette that just came out that retails for $40! The colors are beautiful but I can’t see myself ever using the bright yellow and blue shade or spending that much on colors I would barley use.

Here is another swatch of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in the color Prismatic Amethyst. This one shade retails for $38!! It looks exactly like the second color I made using the L’oreal Infalliable eye shadow. Even if you bought the Sephora liquid highlighter and the L’oreal eye shadow, you still come out cheaper than buying this! Crazy.

If you try out this beauty hack please let me know. I’d love to see how it came out for you. Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a wonderful day.
