My Holy Grail Foundations for Oily Skin

Having oily skin sucks at times, but I like to look on the bright side, and us oily skin girls just have a natural moisturizer all the time. My esthetician tells me that people with oily skin don’t get as many wrinkles either because we’re always moisturized. So that’s a plus! One of the hardest struggles with having oily skin is finding the right foundation. I’ve had foundations that just look like an oil slick on my face by the end of the day, or even just after a couple of hours. The struggle is real! Instead of spending a bunch of money on foundations for your oily skin, check out the rest of this post to see my holy grail foundations for us shiny gals.

Starting left to right

Anastasia Stick Foundation:

This is my go to foundation for work, or when I don’t feel like using a liquid foundation. It’s lightweight but very build able. I apply is directly to my face and blend it with a beauty blender or flat top kabuki brush. This leaves me very matte for hours. The tube makes it really easy to take anywhere. The price is amazing for a high end makeup brand as well, only $25! Also they come in a lot of different shades and even highlight and contour colors.

M.A.C. Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Foundation:

A powder foundation is great for oily skin. This foundation mattifies right away and is very lightweight. I use this when I’m in a rush and don’t want to take the time to do my face makeup. I use a dense kabuki brush to apply it. I either do one quick sweep of my face for a lightweight application or you can really build it up for a more full coverage finish. I use this for touch ups throughout the day as well. It’s great at soaking up that extra shine. Price is $28

Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Hydrating Foundation:

Usually I never use a foundation with the word hydrating in the title because it ends up being a disaster for my oily skin. I came across this foundation just recently and it might be my favorite out of all of these. It gets better the longer you have it on. For me, that never happens with foundations. They end up looking worse the longer you have them on because all your oil breaks through the foundation. Well not with this one! It’s also great if you’re going to be photographed. Smashbox created this foundation to look good in any light so you don’t get that white flashback on your face. It’s oil free (and you know we don’t need any extra oil) and has a natural finish. It’s medium coverage but you can build it up for a more full coverage finish. It’s amazing. Price is $42.

L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation:

On my quest for foundations I was tired of spending so much money on high end brands and just wanted to save some money. When I saw this foundation and the word Matte, I knew I had to try it. This product is amazingggggg. Even with my other foundations, I still use this one all the time. Mostly I use it if I know I’m going to have to have it on for a long time and it’s hot outside. It keeps up really good with my oily skin. It’s full coverage but doesn’t feel heavy on your skin. If you’re looking for a cheap but really good foundation for your oily skin, try this one out, you won’t be disappointed. Price varies, $9-13.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation:
My first love! This foundation was the first one I found that worked with my oily face. She will always have a place in my heart. Before I used the Smashbox foundation this was my go to for date nights, or any special occasions. It isn’t as matte as the Smashbox foundation but the finish it leaves is flawless. I always get compliments on my skin when I have this on. Because it’s not that matte, it does require me to do some blotting a couple of hours into having it on but sometimes I like it, gives my skin an extra glow. Very natural finish. Oil free and medium to full coverage. Price $39.50
I hope this helps anyone with oily skin who is looking for a good foundation that won’t leave us looking like a shiny mess. Unless you’re into that, no judgement here haha. What’s your favorite foundations for oily skin?
